On June 4th and 5th 2019 GRETE consortium partners gathered for the first time at project coordinator VTT facilities in Espoo (FI) to kick-off the initiative and connect names to faces. The aim of this new BBI JU project is to open up the bottlenecks of the current wood-to-textile value chain by developing novel and better solutions for wood pulp modification, cellulose dissolution and generation of cellulose fibres with improved technical properties. The great challenge is to achieve these goals while complying market needs and sustainability requirements, and demonstrating the reduction in emissions, water consumptions while energy saving through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach.
